The graph and table illustrate the amount of water used worldwide and compare the water consumption between Brazil and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Overall, all three sectors experienced the rise in consuming water, but Agriculture showed the most dramatic increase in the period from 1900 to 2000. Water consumption per person in Brazil is much higher in comparison with that in Democratic Republic of Congo.

In 1900, the amount of water used in Agriculture was about 500 km3, while in Industrial use and Domestic use was just about 100km3 and 50km3 respectively. After a period of 100 years, in 2000, the Agriculture sector saw a dramatic rise up to 3,000km3. Although the amount of water used by Industrial use sector and Domestic use sector escalated to about 1,000km3 and nearly 500km3 respectively, it was still much lower than that in comparison with the Argriculture.

In Brazil, the water consumption per person in 2000 was 359m3, which was far higher than 8m3 when compares to the Democratic Republic of Congo, knowing that the amount of irrigated land in Brazil was 26,500km3, while that in the Democratic Republic of Congo was just 100km3.
