It is more important to spend public money promoting a healthy lifestyle in order to prevent illness than to spend it on the treatment of people who are already ill. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It seems reasonable to some people that public money should be majorly spent on preventing diseases rather than on treating ill people. Although those individuals have their own reasons to believe such an approach, I completely disagree with what they argue for.
It would be wrong and absurd to think that we should use more money to promote healthy habits that emphasize the importance of prevention rather than curation. Even if an individual pursues a strict healthy lifestyle, nothing can guarantee that he or she will not encounter illnesses in later life since the roots of a disease cannot be pinpointed and therefore cannot be eliminated sometimes. Besides, the costs of finding a perfect lifestyle that can shield us from all health risks can be prohibitive, for much research and many projects have to be carried out. In addition, healthy habits only work for the wealthy citizens or the medium class of society as the living and working conditions of deprived people do not allow them to be in quest of such luxuries.
As human beings, we cannot neglect or turn our backs on ill people. They unfortunately confront and have to fight against diseases, but there are kinds of illnesses that can be cured totally if enough care and treatment is offered. Even when some are chronically or terminally ill, we should make efforts in reducing their pain to the minimum and help them truly live their last days without much suffering. That is what we are supposed to do and should always aim for, which is creating a society where healthy people have access to health programmes programs and are instructed how to lead a free-from-illness life, and sick people are assisted during their tough treatment.
In conclusion, I personally believe that we should equally spend public money on preventing diseases and curing the people who are already ill.
