Since there is an increasing amount of competition, manufacturers are continually attempting to maintain leading positions within the marketplace. Contributing to difficulties in maintaining such positions are the rapidly accelerating rates of technological advancement and development. This is because they create a significant necessity forrequire manufacturers to not only more precisely monitor markets, but also generate and adapt their products in-line with them. Failure to implement such practices can result in overlooked market opportunities, and hence an inability to capitalize upon them. However, whilst this appears to be a prerequisite for manufacturers, to be truly competitive, they must not only generate products, processes and services that are in-line with the market, but also innovative, and therefore ahead of it
