Letter Writing

Hi! Formal letter

Hi!
I'm Elena from France. Could you help me? I've written these two letters, but I'm not very well in English. It's important that there are any error, because otherwise they will not take me to the conference/workshop... I would really appreciate this! Thank you in advance.

Dear Dr ***

I am writing to you, because I request your financial support to attend the conference “Rewriting Histories - The Transnational Challenge” in *** (from April 28 - May 1). I received the information from the EHESS (***) where I attend some courses, for example “***”.

I am a second year MA student of INALCO (***) and Chinese and History (XIX-XXth century) are my fields of research.

I am really interested to study the past in depth, in the ways that transnational history suggests. Last year, I have written a MA dissertation on a subject which is now very relevant, the “rewriting” (in country-region w:st="on" style="">China’s academics journals) of the XIX-XXth century history of the foreign settlements in (). I was especially interested in how and for which purposes the history was rewritten, in regard of the very particularly transnational character of the early modernization in country-region w:st="on" style="">. I am also really interested in how country-region w:st="on" style="">China (and the country-region w:st="on" style="">’s universities) will react to a “transnational history” and how could be interpreted “our” transnational history. Or, if they are interested in doing a “transnational history” out of the borders and perhaps in collaboration with others history experts.

At last, what I am expecting from this very high-quality conference, is also the opportunity to network with subject matter experts that are grown away from my research field, but that have in common with me the interest in a “transnational history”. This will be very useful.

Thank you for considering my attendance at this important conference.

Sincerely,

And now the other...:

Dear Dr ***,

I apply hereby for your workshop “Research Training in Old Chinese: History and Historiography” (24-28 March 2010). I am a MA student in Chinese, at *** (). I have a degree in Chinese at the *** University, which is inclusive of A three-year training in Classical Chinese.
My research field is modern Chinese history. I’m doing a historiographical and historic analysis on the city of in the XIX-XXth century. With my project, I will discuss my methodological approaches to chinese history and historiography, in that period. I will also discuss with participants the theoretical implications of some of the research tools that I usually employ. That includes several documents of Qing administration about the city of , to compare constantly with dispatches or letters of the municipal council of the settlements. This way, I hope to have a useful exchange of opinions with others participants.

Thank you for considering my attendance at this important workshop.

Sincerely,
