As life expectancy is increasing, people work after retirement with pay. Alternatively, some people start to work at a young age.
Are these positive or negative impacts?
In some countries, people live longer than before and they still work beyond their retirement age with pay. Conversely, some others decide to work early in order to get retired sooner than other workers. In my opinion, working late after retirement with pay or working early have both positive and negative impacts to some extents.
On the one hand, the idea of working after retirement with pay brings some advantages with it. Firstly, keeping working in old ages would help workers to maintain their good physical as well as mental health. Science has pointed out that people who work in old ages are less likely to get some health issues such as obesity and absent-mindedness. Secondly, getting pay from work would ensure the elderly living well. Based on their wages, they could afford the cost of living and enjoy their hobbies like travelling and collecting. However, one downside of this idea is that working environment these days is increasingly stressful, which may affect adversely to elderly workers, especially to some workaholic people.
On the other hand, there are also some significant benefits of working in young age. One benefit is that young workers can gain a lot of real-life experience throughout working. Furthermore, youngsters could find out what they like and want to do, resulting in having clear career paths in the future. Nonetheless, one primary disadvantage of working at young age is that the youth would get low pay or even abused due to lack of hands-on experience and knowledge about labour laws. As a result, young workers may experience money obsession during working.
In conclusion, it seems evident that working after retirement with pay or working early in lifetime could have both positive and negative consequences in equal measure.
