Topic: Some experts believe that it is better for children to begin learning a foreign language at primary school rather than secondary school.

Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

Foreign language has recently become a compulsory subject because of its significant influence on the students’ future. In most of countries, foreign language is usually taught in secondary school. However, some experts believe that learning a foreign language at primary school brings more benefits than the drawbacks.

It is believed that there are a lot of advantages of learning a new language at the age from 5 to 11. First of all, it is the most suitable time in human life to learn new languages because children at that ages have better language abilities. They are like blank paper, they are still learning how to speak their mother tongue. As a result, primary children are easier to be taught and re-corrected, especially their pronunciation, although their brains are not fully developed. A survey from Hanoi university of Humanity reveals that primary school students learn new language 50% faster than the over 11-year-old students. Second, primary school students are more flexible in the timetable that the older one. They do not have too many compulsory subjects to learn, that allows them to have more time to practice daily. Therefore, their foreign language can improve far faster than the secondary school students.

However, children from 5 to 11 years old cannot suffer too many pressures because this period is time to for children to sleep and play. Learning too many things can lead to detrimental effects on the growth of the children. Moreover, children at this age do not recognize the importance of learning foreign languages, they are easy to feed up with their study. However, these issues can be solved by providing a learning environment which combines playing and learning

In conclusion, learning language has become a requirement because of the globalization in the modern world. Although there are still some drawbacks of studying the foreign language at primary school, it still brings a huge range of benefits.
