Top answer

The last country I've been to is Singapore. (note also "to" before "is") The reason I used "is" is because the present perfect ('ve been) focuses on the present so "is" is better than "was". In fact, "was" would be considered incorrect by many.

  • The last country I've been to is Singapore.
  • (note also "to" before "is") The reason I used "is" is because the present perfect ('ve been) focuses on the present so "is" is better than "was".
  • In fact, "was" would be considered incorrect by many.
  • I believe that using "has been" would also be possible The last country I've been to has been Singapore.
  • Nevertheless I prefer "is".

Sorry, but "has been" does not work.

The last country I've been to (present perfect) does take is
The last country I visited (simple past) can take is or was, without a change in meaning, but I would use was.

Please note that capital letters are part of writing correctly in English.

Yes, you're probably right even though a friend of mine (native speaker) once said something like "The friendliest country I've been to has been Turkey".
