Hi, could anyone give me feedback on this please? It's for a university application. Also if you could tell me what you think i'd be grateful. Thanks

I believe it's important for Journalists to keep an open mind in an era of advancing technology. In the past, your ordinary Newspaper Writer may not feel they have the face for Broadcast Journalism. However, with multimedia technology on the increase it's important for Journalists to embrace change. In the past Journalism could be catergorised into different branches, being either print, televsion or radio. Unfortunately for these Journalists, companies are using media convergence to reduce costs, and employing multi-skilled Journalists to help them do so.
Media convergence is on the increase, with the introduction of internet innovations. Specific one skill Journalists are beginning to find themselves a dieing breed, as more are being encouraged to gain new skills and learn different aspects of Journalism. Many experienced Journalists embrace this change as it enables them to continue learning, others aren't so enthusiastic about the change as they feel they've already established themsleves. It's harder to train a worker to learn new skills than it is to train an apprentice.
The increased in multiskilled workers is not without it's disadvantages. Being multiskilled also leads to increased pressure and a drop in quality of work. Although it ultimately cuts costs, it can also result in the quality of the finished product suffering. In contrast to this some may argue that single skill Journalists have very little control over their final product. Multiskilled Journalists may feel a greater sense of achievement at their work being "their own".
In conclusion, whilst convergence in the Newsplace is becoming an inevitability, complete convergence may result in a decrease in quality of output. With companies looking to cut costs in the recession, Journalists will need to be multiskilled to survive in the industry.
