Topic: People should follow the customs and tradition when they start to live in a new country. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Many people consider that foreigners need to adopt to the customs and traditions when they come to reside a new country. I totally agree with this opinion.

On the one hand, newcomers will face difficulties if they do not follow the norm of social behaviour in the host country. The first drawback is that they will create barriers for themselves to fit in with new society. For example, an entreprenuer who moves to a foreign country and establishes a new business need to accept the business pratices of that country. Due to understanding these norms and rules, his company is able to attract more local customers. The second reason is that if immigrants do not respect the behaviour of native people, they might fall foul of the law. In Singapore. for instance, when someone chew gum in public, they will be punished harshly and Singaporeans will consider they are dirty and ill-mannered.

On the other hand, there are a variety of benefits of foreigners when they adapt to customs and traditions of their new country. One advantage is that regional citizens will be more welcoming because they feel the respect from same behaviours of newcomers. The establishment of closer links with native community will lead to a deep intergration and mutual understanding. Furthermore, the more aspects of local customs the newcomers enjoy, the more experience they can get. Therefore, they will participate in new community easier and avoid social isolation. In festival holidays of foreign country, they will feel like they belong in there.

In conclusion, I argue that foreigners should observe customs and traditions in host country for the reason that it will help them to intergrate fully into new society.
