'Hi, Ashton—Dave.’

I'm editing something for a friend, and she said that I cannot recast.

'Hi, Ashton—Dave.’

In this short sentence Dave is telling Ashton, 'Hi, Ashton, it's Dave.' I recommended to her that the em dash is a suitable substitute for the implied 'it's'. Do you agree with me about the em dash here?

Thank you,

Mike
