Topic: Some people think that teenagers should be required to do unpaid work in their free time to help the local community. They believe this would benefit both the individual teenager and society as a whole. Do you agree or disagree?

Some people think it is obligatory that all teenagers take part in unpaid work in the society. Although helping out the local community could bring some benefits, it seems to me that it would be unwarranted to force the young to do so.

I know that contributing to the work of our society is a highly sensible thing to do. Students, after studying at school, should set aside a sufficient amount of their leisure time to do unpaid work to help the aged and people who are struggling everyday to get by. The unpaid work can simply be a drop-by at one elderly’s home to check if they need any help or taking after a neighbor’s child while they are at work.Lending a hand to support others could help the young generations develop a good sense of community and neighborliness. In addition, not only could the students gain social experience but also feel satisfaction and joy as well as take pride in doing such good things for the community they live in.

However, that teenagers should be required to do unpaid work partly relies on one’s situation. In fact, there are some students who have heavy daily schedules, therefore, putting aside some time to do the community work seems impossible. As a consequence, we are only laying pressure on these teenagers if we force them to fulfil our expectations by committing to the work related to the society. In some cases, a few teenagers ragard those things as unnecessary and should be eroded, and asking them to help the locals would be unproductive or even counterproductive. The decision concerning whether or not they should do unpaid work should be made by the young themselves and we should only made encouragement when needed.

In conclusion, while it is undisputed that the community work is highly beneficial to both teenagers and the society as a whole, it should be optional to everyone.
