Over the past few years, reproductive health works and Maternal and child health have gained important achievements. However, there are significant differences in maternal mortality, infant mortality and infant mortality among regions in the country.

Head of Maternal and Child Health (MCH), said that the index on maternal and child health of Viet Nam have been quite good compared with many countries with similar per capital incomes.The maternal mortality ratio has dropped three times;the infant mortality under one year fell nearly three times; Under-five mortality reduced more than a half.

Despite the significant improvements in maternal and child health status, there is a considerable variation in maternal mortality, the infant mortality among geographic regions, between social-economic regions and among different ethnic groups. Remarkably, the rate of maternal mortality and child mortality has tended to slow down in recent years, while the maternal mortality and infant mortality have declined sharply, but it is estimated that there are still between 580 and 600 maternal mortality cases and more than 10,000 infant mortality cases each year in Vietnam.

In addition, the examination, discovery, treatment, follow-up and counseling after the treatment has not been properly considered, especially the connection between the reproductive health care system and maternal and children health care and the prevention of communicable diseases from parents to children is limited. At the same time, knowledge and behavior on reproductive health and adolescent sexual health are still limited. Knowledge, attitudes and behaviors on reproductive health care and care in maternal and child health in the community and even health workers are not high.
