Teaching

Hi!

I am an online English ESL teacher for Japanese students and then the company already provided us with the lesson material, but I'm not contented with their lesson material because they're no basic words like how to pronounce the consonant or vowel. But I'm just wondering if anyone could help me or give me a link that could be very helpful in teaching my Japanese students. Thank you. Emotion: smile

I am not clear on what you are looking for, exactly. A pronunciation book? I suggest that you just teach them a simple version of the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet)—if they do not already know it, which most of my student do—and then encourage them to use it, both in accessing their dictionary pronunciations and when transcribing the pronunciations that of new words that they learn in class or elsewhere.

  • There is nothing more detrimental to learning accurate pronunciation than the Japanese habit of transcribing it in kana.
