Hey mama

hey guys

what does "hey mama" mean?

Top answer

It's very much street slang. This is a way of saying 'hello' to a woman, and also a way to express strong approval of her looks. I usually advise learners to avoid expressions like this.

By the way, there are places where saying that will get you in trouble. In certain macho pride cultures, you cannot even mention a man's mother without some obligatory courtesy, like "your sainted mother". That goes for expressions like "Yo mama" (your mother), but used ineptly, "hey mama" is apt to be misinterpreted.
