Hey Grammar Geek Can You Check This One!

I have aked this question and everybody has a different answer and I really need the correct one!

Which of the following is correct?

A. I called this afternoon Paul answered.

B. I called this afternoon, Paul answered.

C. I called this afternoon, and Paul answered.

D. None of the above

I think it is D but mixed between that and C! Explain to me please

C is correct. What seems wrong to you about it?

I agree with GG. You may also eliminate the comma, IMO.
