Hesitation

<>Hi,

All this coming together was a conjuncture difficult to cope with in a moment, and made him question whether he ought to leave the house or offer assistance. But for Sally's manner he would unhesitatingly have done the latter.

He would offer asstince without hesitation because Sally is good girl? Correct?

Thanks

I believe 'but for' her manner, he would have offered assistance means that her manner caused him to not want to assist her. ' He would offer assistance without hesitation if only Sally would be a good girl.

I believe 'but for' her manner, he would have offered assistance means that her manner caused him to not want to assist her. It's like saying, 'I would be glad to help you, but your behavior makes me hesitate, so I'm leaving.'

He would offer assistance without hesitation if only Sally would be a good girl.
