Here's looking at you

Hi all. I saw the film Casablanca. In the film, the man said to his girl friend "Here's looking at you". Could somebody explain the meaning of the sentence in the context, pls. Thank you.

It's a familiar kind of toast while drinking a beverage with a friend. The beverage isn't really necessary, though. Similar toasts: here's to us, here's to your happiness, cheers.
