"hereby"

The following is an excerpt from a letter I'm about to post to an educational board, regarding a change of subject of choice for the upcoming examinations. I would like to know if the way I used the word "hereby" in this letter is correct.

"Since I could not pass the July 2013 examination, I would like to inform CBSE of my choice of the 6th subject- Mathematics as the subject in which I would prefer to appear as a candidate for the improvement examinations, instead of the other 5 subjects.

I hereby request CBSE to discard my previous application, and grant me the authorisation to appear in the improvement examinations with mathematics as the only subject. I will be exceedingly grateful to the authority for this."

By-the-way, CBSE is the name of the board, and Improvement Examinations is the name of the examination.

Thank you.
