Vocabulary

here they are or here it is?

In a movie, when a man returned a pair of glasses to the other, he said:"here they are."

I thought it should be "here it is" because it is just one pair of glasses. Which is right? Thanks.

This till sounds weird to me. I know, there are two pieces of glasses in a pair of glasses, but those two glasses form one pair of glasses.

Most objects that are formed from a pair of connected things are treated as plurals in English.

-- The [scissors / pliers / glasses / pants / trousers] are on the table.
-- Where are they?
-- Here they are -- on the table.

Thanks a lot.

BTW, sometime, in a movie, I saw people using "glasses" which actually only have one piece of glass (just half of the normal glasses), could you tell me what's the name for that?
