Her parents were busy preparing to go on holiday.

Her parents were busy preparing to go on holiday.

I have learned that the word prepare is used for both transitive and intransitive verb and then I was wondering if to V is considered as an object or an adverb? I feel like it functions as an object like I want to go now but I think that it could be considered as an adverbial phrase in meaning like I met him to talk about it. And then to V after prepare can be both and should we figure it out in context? What do you native English speakers think? Thank you so much in advance.
