'Her and her ex...'

I am learning to speak English and I just watched an episode of E.R. and at some point one of the main characters said 'Her and her ex were so grateful he proposed to her again'

I have a strong feeling this is wrong! Shouldn't it be 'She and her ex..'? Or is there some grammatical rule I don't know about?

You're right, they're wrong. (The only time "her and her ex" would be correct is if the phrase was the object of preposition -- as in, "The property belonged to her and her ex.". )
