[Help]meaning of "take credit"?

It would be helpful to have more context. My guess is that it means to help someone (maybe a child or a boyfriend/girlfriend) become a better person.

In that context, "line" is short for "pick-up line". In this case, it was a lie told to make the guy more attractive to Monica.

A "line" isn't necessarily a lie, it can be an ice-breaker (conversation starter).
