Helping verbs

Can helping verbs be considered adverbs? For example, "If you don't do your work, I'll punish you." mom said." Is the "don't" in the first clause an adverb since it modifies do? Is the "will" from the second clause's contraction that helps "punish" considered an adverb? Thank you in advance!
