For me, this is not very satisfactory. For one thing, it is not very clear who actually got the book. The usual phrasing is that you help someone do something, or help someone to do something (these are interchangeable in meaning).

Just my passing two vents worth....
The original sentence "Thank you for helping us in getting the new book so soon. " is semantically reasonable enough to show the intended meaning and the person saying it indeed knows who got him the book.

Sorry, with due respect, "by" doesn't work for me. It could be my ear. If I were to write this thanking sentence, I would sinply say " Thank you for getting the new book for us". This will be the sample scenario in which my neighbood was going to the supermarket and I asked her to help me

I think this can mean:
a) George was partly involved in the work
b) George did all the work.

I think 'by' is OK here:

Sarah helped Dan by taking her round the place and explaining the importance of every spot.
