Task 2: Despite the advances made in agriculture, many people around the world still go hungry. Why is this the case? What can be done about this problem?
In recent times, although agriculture has been dramatically developed, there is still starvation in the world and this has become a topic that has attracted much attention in society. There exist several factors leading to such a phenomenon and those certainly need appropriate actions.
Firstly, because of the application of technology into agriculture, there is an increase in product prices, leading to unaffordability to poor or extremely low-income families. Automation has steadily driven blue-core jobs to desperation and large companies also employ only professionals for producing food. As a result, locals will not have jobs, which would lead to more severe starvation. Secondly, the globalization in technological era increases the income gap between developed and developing countries. For example, in the chocolate industry, workers for 30% of chocolate in the world come from West Africa. Taking unfair advantage of the situation that African workers need a low salary and they are uneducated, big countries commit them to cultivate cacao trees for exporting chocolate to Europe with the price 80 times higher than workers’ salaries. Consequently, since developed countries master in technology, they will be more wealthy and poor countries still deal with hunger.
To handle these problems, governments should take action immediately. What needs implementing is that the government and private corporations ought to create more blue core jobs for locals. They also need to reduce food prices by paying a small expense for citizens. Simultaneously, there should be fair wages for workers in all developing countries. Companies must not exploit poor employees to roll their profits as long as they could. And teenagers or workers should try to planting food for their countries instead of working for foreign companies. If these effective solutions are implemented, there will be a decrease in hunger around the world.
To conclude, it is unusual that there was famine together with agricultural development. Therefore, authorities need to enhance people's lives and create more jobs in agricultural fields for low-income families.
