Help with translation

Hi all!

Could you please have a look at this little passage and tell me if it is ok?

----
Another philisopher, teaching his disciple, asked: «Haven't you understood?» «I have» — replied he. Then the philisopher said: «It is not true for understainding is witnessed by pleasure on (don't want to use "your" here to avoid repetition) the(?) face rather than by your answer.»
----

Thank you in advance!
Anton

Thanks for showing me that I don't see simple things!

BTW,
Can I somehow keep the original form of the question? I think it has a slightly different coloration than yours:

"You should have understood. I am amazed that you look like you haven't undestood... So, what's the matter? Have you got it or not?"

Hope, you grasp what I want the question to be...

Hi,

Yes, you could say 'Haven't you understood?'
