Help with this sentence

is this written correctly?

It would be embarassing if the students know more than the teacher.

Which one should I use, and which one is correct?

Also...

The problem makes more sense now that you have used the math formula.

The problem makes more sense now that you use the math formula.

Which one is right, and what's the difference?
