help with the recommendation letter
Help with the recommendation letter, I am the student but the professor told me to write it myself, and then give it to him. So I am not very sure about this letter and hope you can help me, thx a lot!!!
To whom it may concern:
This letter is to support Yuanzhe Zhang as a qualified candidate for your Ph.D. program. I am professor Gao, and the Associate Dean of Department of Chemistry, XX University.
Let me first describe Mr. Zhang from the aspect of courses. As a student in Zhufeng plan, which is directly supported by the Chinese Education Minister, he did a good job in his academic scores. He had attended my courses, I taught him Organic Chemistry I and II. In the class though he is not the most active student, he always discussed questions with me. From our conversations he showed great interests in organic chemistry and paid a lot of attention to the details. When answering questions, he can always quickly find the key point, which is much better than his classmates. Therefore I gave him A’s on these two courses. He also attended my courses of Experiments in Synthetic Chemistry I and II. In the lab, he had a serious attitude towards every procedure in the experiment and sometimes can help deal with some experimental questions for other students. Though he made some mistakes in Course I, which resulted in a B plus in his grade, he performed well in the Course II and got an A, maybe partly because he joined Prof. Wu’s group at the end of last semester.
Then, from the aspect of the associate dean, I find Mr. Zhang is good at seizing opportunities. In the summer of 2012, he with other students representing my university joined the Summer School on Physical Chemistry in XX University. And in the summer of 2013, based on the students’ overall academic and research works, some students, including him, were selected for an exchange program in Germany. And after the interview with the German professor, only he was qualified. From his report after coming back, I can say that he learned a lot. He also joined the Undergraduate Research Program in 2013, wrote a qualified research proposal and got supported from the department.
Therefore from my point, I believe Mr. Yuanzhe Zhang is an outstanding student and is qualified for your Ph. D. program.
