Okay, I admit I had to look up Stygian, but it said it meant dark, so the two words are synonyms.

Mr. M, don't you think that fortuitous and accidental are a better match?

Not I, sorry. Stygian is extremely dark and absymal is extremely low. Fortuitous and accidental are more closely synonymous in intensity.
