Hi,It would be great if someone helps in correcting the sentence below:"discrimination based upon an individual's sex, race, ethnicity, caste, national origin, age, religion or any other legally protected characteristics will not be tolerated"

But, I'm more interested to know whether it is better to use national origin or nationality? Both are OK, but 'nationality' seems simpler to understand.
I'm a Canadian from Britain. I have two nationalities. Would you consider my national origin to be British? My son was born in Canada but has both Canadian and British nationality. What would his national origin be?
Of course, your question seems to presuppose that such characteristics are legally defined.

I could understand your explanation based on legality. You are absolutely right.

In the language sense, will it not look better if we read "individual's nationality or individual's country of origin" than "individual's national origin"?

Alternatively, which one (national origin or nationality) agrees well with other nouns in that sentence "ethnicity,race, ***, age" etc ?

Terms like nationality, country of origin, race, ethnicity etc are dodgy to use and best avoided if possible.

Even a term like '***' is somewhat controversial. In Canada, we commonly say 'gender'.
