Help with Sentence Fragment

Richard III supposedly had the young princes murdered. Never found out what really happened to them.

In terms of style, I am not comfortable with "...the young princes murdered, they....". It sounds as if the young princes,being dead, never found out what had happened to themselves. The confusion is made worse by the lack of any other previ

The use of "it" in that sentence is fine.

You can also say "No one knows for sure what really happened to them."

(Surely back when it happened, someone knew, but no one NOW knows.)

I prefer

Richard III supposedly had the young princes murdered; what really happened to them was never found out.

In my secret heart, I also long to replace the semi-colon with a period.
