Help with sentence and a question

Thanks Mary, I contacted Jim, and he gave me the answer I needed.

I have a question about the above sentence, could I have left out the comma after Jim.

denna1001 could I have left out the comma after Jim. Tastes vary. I follow the rule that if a new subject is expressed after and ( he ), you use the comma.

Yes. In fact, I prefer the sentence without that comma.*

While we're talking about punctuation, your question isn't punctuated correctly. You are joining two independent clauses with a comma. This is known as a "comma splice" and is to be avoided. In this case it's easiest to write it as two sentences. You also need a question mark:

"I have a question about the above sentence. C

One more question if you don't mind.

If I had wrote, "Thanks everyone. I contacted Jim, and he gave me the answer I needed." would the sentence in the quotation marks be right?
