Hi, It was a week after graduation and I, sitting in a hotel room in Ohio, had just gotten off the phone with my agent Mary; Monomoy Books, the publshing company that promised pulication of my book just a few months earlier, had justed filed bankruptcy. I would write it thus: It was a week after graduation and I, sitting in a hotel room in Ohio, had just got off the phone with my agent , Mary; Monomoy Books, the publishing company that promised publication of my book just a few months earlier (no comma) had just filed for bankruptcy. 'Gotten' is OK, but I prefer 'got'.

  • for bankruptcy' is more common.

I think both commas are needed in the second half, paceClive

Hi,

Yes, both commas are needed in the second half. I was careless.

Thanks, CJ
