Help with Punctuation - Part 3

Hi can someone please approve my answer to the following punctuation exercise. My punctuation marks answers are highlighted in red font.

Re-write the following, putting in capital letters, punctuation marks, apostrophes and quotation marks:

what a strange trunk exclaimed john whose is it its captain hardys replied his uncle dick I ll tell you about it if youve time to listen im very sorry I cant stay just now for I must be back at school by two o clock may I call again later in the afternoon

“What a strange trunk!" exclaimed John. “Whose is it?”

It’s Captain Hardy’s,” replied his Uncle Dick. “I’ll tell you about it if you’ve time to listen.”

“I’m very sorry, I cant stay just now for I must be back at school by two o’clock. May I call again later in the afternoon?”

Thanks both of you. However, have both of you come up with different interpretations. Which is correct, please advise?:

Yoong Liat has:

“I’m very sorry. I can’t stay just now, for I must be back at school by two o’clock. May I call again later in the afternoon?”


Clive has:

Yoong Liat has:

“I’m very sorry. I can’t stay just now, for I must be back at school by two o’clock. May I call again later in the afternoon?”

(To me, "I'm very sorry" is by itself a complete sentence, so a full stop is required after 'sorry'. Do you notice there is a comma after 'now' followed by the next word

In the midst of all this, you need an open quotation mark before It's

Thanks, Barbara, you're right. There should be open quotation marks before It's. I've inserted them.
