help with prepositions

Hi, tell me what is the suitable preposition to fill the blanks (in, on, at) I can't figure out.

He likes playing football ___ weekends

Vancouver is a very cold city ___ winter

Vancouver is a very cold city in winter

I didn't find some lesson which talked about prepositions with seasons and weekends.

In American English, "on weekends" is fine; but in British English, you would usually say "at the weekend".
