Help with meaning of a phrase... please :)

Good evening...

If anyone could help, I'd be most grateful. What would be the meaning of this?

"I cant take anything said at face value"

I'm not entirely sure. Someone just told me it's how I am... would like to know if it's good or bad.

Cheers.

Hi, I can't take anything said at face value Bad. Means, he doesn't trust what is being presented. I am not sure if this phrase originally started with financial stuff, but bonds have a face value.

  • A bond might have a face value of $1000.
  • But if that bond is being issued by a company with a poor financial outlook, then it might not be worth its face value.
