If anyone could help, I'd be most grateful. What would be the meaning of this?

I'm not entirely sure. Someone just told me it's how I am... would like to know if it's good or bad.

Hi, I can't take anything said at face value Bad. Means, he doesn't trust what is being presented. I am not sure if this phrase originally started with financial stuff, but bonds have a face value.
