Help with letter of motivation

Hello,

Maybe someone could help me with a quick review of my letter. I'm applying for a Master's Degree at TU Eindhoven in The Netherlands.

It has already some iterations behind, but I've seen the high level of expertise that people on the forum have and I think I shouldn't loose the chance to get advice from you.

I haven't received feedback from an english native speaker as well so it would be helpful anyway if you find something that is written in a strange way.

I thank you in advance your help,
regards, Luis

Application for MSc. Human-Technology Interaction

San José, January 2nd 2014

Dear Sir or Madam:

I'm applying for the Master’s programme of Human-Technology Interaction at your University. After graduating in Industrial Design Engineering and working as interaction designer I want to orientate my career towards User Research and User Centered Design. In this programme I see a key step to broaden my knowledge and become an expert on such fields.

I’m a young Costa Rican designer. Upon completion of my studies at the Costa Rica Institute of Technology (Costa Rica), and the Hochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd (Germany), I have worked for more than two years as Interaction Designer with a software company in my home country. Within this position I am responsible for the development of new concepts for user interfaces for mobile- and web-applications, its prototyping, and the guidance of the development team on the implementation of the design. This experience acquired through my academic and professional life has helped me to develop a passionate interest for the relationships between people and technologies.

Just as to industrial design, I feel attracted to human-technology interaction due to its problem-solving nature. Always focused on the user and his/her needs I point to bring technology closer to people. My natural curiosity about the logic behind processes and new technologies, along with my keen sense for detail, support me on the pursuit of this goal. While looking for original solutions I like to call the old into question. It fascinates me to find ways to create new solutions or to change the existing ones. My versatile background on graphic-, product- and interaction-design allows me to approach an issue from different perspectives.

By taking this specialisation I expect to join my practical experience with state-of-the-art knowledge from academic sources and research. I intend to deepen my knowledge on perception, cognition and user behaviour; as well as learn about methods for user modelling and testing of interactive systems. The balanced blend between technical, psychological and design training offered in this programme shows an exciting direction to follow and an appropriate way to reach these goals.

The Netherlands is also particularly interesting for me to make a Master’s Degree because of its level of maturity and development in the field of human-computer interaction and its known culture of innovation. The location of the University in Eindhoven adds also advantages due to its closeness to the high-technology industry.

I thank you very much for taking the time to consider my application. I would be glad to share my ideas, skills and passion with the academic community at TU Eindhoven, and I look forward to learn and grow as professional at your University.

Yours sincerely,
