Topic: Some people say that the Internet is bringing people together by making the world smaller.
Do you agree that the Internet is making it easier for people to communicate with one another?
The evolution of the Internet has made people’s connections around the world much easier. I completely agree that in our today’s globalized world the Internet is playing an increasingly important role in easing communication.
Regarding personal perspective, people are ever more connected with each other thanks to the use of the Internet. The creation of electronic mail and the establishment of well-renowned email service providers such as Google and Yahoo have rivaled the traditional communication methods including mail and fax with their convenience and efficiency. While it may take weeks to send a letter from Vietnam to Canada via regular mail, email delivery could be in just a second. What’s more, online chatting software like Skype provides much more interactivity with its video call or photo sharing functions which landline phones cannot offer. A mother in China, for example, can simply log in Skype in order to see her children studying overseas instead of arranging an in-person visit.
With regards to business benefits, online recruitment websites have been enhancing an facilitating the hiring process of a large number of enterprises worldwide, and job seekers have found these sites as useful channels for future employment. Candidates now can just put in their applications for vacancies online and attend online interviews with recruiters rather than go for offline interviews. Another area supported by the Internet is customer service; current customers or potential buyers can contact sales representatives via online interactive chat boxes or find more information about productions and services in ‘frequently asked questions’ sections. These communication channels have proved to play a pivotal role in assisting companies and consumers to exchange information and ideas.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that communication nowadays has become far more convenient and less complicated than it used to be through the use of the Internet.
