help with comma

Hi all,

Just wanted some help with the correct use of a comma in the following type of sentence when addressing someone:

Do you have to use a comma when addressing someone by their name or nickname? For example, 'How was your day, sweetheart? or 'How is everything, Sara' - is the comma necessary in these sentences?

Thanks in advance
