Help with assignment

In a recent online newspaper/magazine/journal article (published in October 2011 or later), select three grammatical issues for analysis. The first issue should be related to the use of the verb phrase (tense/aspect choice, modality, voice...), the second to sentence/phrase analysis (full sentence analysis) and the third to a grammatical topic of your choice. Limit each discussion to one page.

Hello good people, I need to write an assignment according to the instructions above. I was hoping you could help me find an interesting article for it and just briefly point me into the right direction (which sentences I should use for which task, etc ).

Your help would be greatly appreciated,

Luke

Okay, I have decided to take the following sentence for verb phrase analysis:

As for OV-101, its name had been changed from Constitution to Enterprise in mid-1976 at the insistence of Star Trek fans (image at top of post).

So the verb phrase is "had been changed", which is past perfect, right? What else can I write about it?

Thanks, Luke

Hi,

Yes, Past Perfect.
What voice is it?

Why do you think the writer chose Past Perfect? Are any other tenses possible in this sentence?

Hey,

I did some quick research and figured the writer chose Past Perfect because it refers to an action that happened prior to another action in the past:

NASA would christen OV-102 Columbia in February 1979, shortly before it rolled out of the Rockwell International plant in Palmdale, California. As for OV-101, its name had been changed from Constitution to

Hey,

I now only need one more advice; Can you suggest a grammatical topic I could shortly write about, from the following paragraph:

Thirteen of the 16 operational flights would use OV-102 and three would use OV-101. NASA would christen OV-102 Columbia in February 1979, shortly before it rolled out of the Rockwell International plant in Palmdale, California. As for OV-101

Hi,

How about the use of 'would' to refer to 'the future at a later time in the past'?

Clive, you have no idea how much you have helped me with all your replies and how grateful I am.

I am now trying to complete the second task of my assignment, and if you could just correct me where I am wrong, that would be amazing.

The STS Utilization and Operations Office at NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston had prepared the document(1), which was meant to be
