I have "quoted a quotation" taken from this forum, but i have found it so appropriate!! isn't it?02br 02br 02br 02br 02br 02br 00--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------02br 02br 02br 02br 02br 02br 00Dear Recruiter, 02br 02br 00 02br 02br 00I am applying to the MSc in Development in order to make a step in a plan I drafted up as far as eight years ago. 02br 02br 00 02br 02br 00When I finished attending the Scientific Lyceum, I had to decide which degree to take, I had two choices in my mind, Physics and Economics, the first because it is science of what happens all around us (matter and energy), the second because it is the science of what happens all around us (people and society). 02br 02br 00I decided that the “human being” variable was, the most interesting and fascinating one, thus I made my choice and set up my plan. 02br 02br 00 02br 02br 00The first step was to study Management and Economics, I graduated 01i00cum laude02i00 with a dissertation about the development of China. 02br 02br 00 02br 02br 00Moving to the second step, I decided do dive into the business world, in order to refine my pragmatic and result oriented working approach. I have realized a research project in China, for the ***********, a government agency, to evaluate the state of the art of Chinese suppliers and transport infrastructures. In the six months required to realize the project, I have deepened my knowledge about the research methodology and, with the support of researchers and professors, I have structured the research plan, elaborated a questionnaire and, during the eleven weeks I have spent in China, I have realized interviews to gather the experiences of managers and entrepreneurs operating there. I have learnt some of the main issues of leading operations in a developing country. 02br 02br 00I am currently working in a consultancy, I am learning how firms behave in the global arena, which are their aims and means. Consultancies are dynamic and stimulating environments, ideal to learn much in a short time.02br 02br 00Thanks to both these working experiences, I have started to understand how to carry on complex projects, working on the field, yet without missing the big picture. 02br 02br 00These skills will prove very useful in my future career in an organization committed to support development at the highest level. 02br 02br 00 02br 02br 00Up to now, I have tried as much as possible to travel broadly and for long periods, to fulfill my need of knowledge about other cultures. I have chosen to start with Finland, where I studied for one term in 2003, and continued with China. These are both countries with cultures very different from the Italian one I have grown up in, the experiences I have made there have opened my mind enormously, I have seen and touched how different can be any small aspect of everyday life. The consciousness of difference is the main lesson I have learnt.02br 02br 00 02br 02br 00It should be clear now that I have decided to start my career in the business world to understand the “means” that are used in that field, but I do not want to spend my life simply helping rich people to become richer. In the past years I have fed my passiona bout developing countries keeping up to date, reading articles about development on newspapers and magazines, in my spare time I also read publications of the UN, the World Bank, as well as other reports about the subject and I am particularly interested in the Asia-Pacific region. Now it is time for me to pass to step three: the MSc in Development. At the ***** I want to acquire the specific knowledge I need to move to the next phase.02br 02br 00 02br 02br 00The fourth step will be to deepen my comprehension of the “human being” variable while using my skills and brainpower to pursue a superior aim: to support the sustainable development of developing countries. I want to continue working as I always did, thus understanding quickly, elaborating creatively and delivering promptly, but in a completely different environment such as that of an NGO or a consultancy operating in developing countries. 02br 02br 00 02br 02br 00I believe that my admission to the MSc will benefit also to ******. As an open minded and curious individual I will support the debate in the classroom with an original point of view, moreover, my working experiences will surely provide useful examples and items for discussion to be shared with the classmates and professors.02br 02br 00 02br 02br 00“I know the price of success: dedication, hard work and an unremitting devotion to the things you want to see happen” (Frank Lloyd Wright). Success means to succeed in what you want to make, thus follow one’s true nature, I am not devote to my personal success, but I am a person that more than anything else want to make things happen. 02br 02br 00The reason why I am applying to the MSc in Development is to make things happen where it matters the most.02br 02br 00--------------------------------------------------------------------------02br 02br 00Thanks a loooooooooooooooooot!!!!02br 02br 00Mario0-
