HELP?! tenses?

i have been given these questions and am a little lost how i am supposed to answer them?

Your help would be much appreciated,

Explain the differences in meaning between

"when i arrived the film started" and " when i arrived the film had started"

Also

"it'ok, i'll speak to her later" and " it's ok, i'm going to speak to her later"
