HELP.... SOME WORDS

hi everybody....

i'm an arabian medical student from KSA...and i've english exam .....i'll be appreciated if u helped me ...

i have some words and phrases which require some explainations and illustrations...

1-The phrase (( pressure group ))... it's like this in the paragraph ((pressure groups have called for all synthetic environmental chemicals with the potential to cause harm to be phased out or banned ))...... i want the meaning of (( pressure group )) according to its position in the written line.

2- the word (( favorable ))... and the word (( sedate ))...the word (( cut down )) in (( cut down on fats and smoking ))

3-the phrase (( realm of rationing ))...it's like this in the paragraph ((As a result , while most medical procedures in this country are easilt available , this$2,000 test is entering the realm of rationing )).... i want the meaning of that phrase according to the written line.

4- the word (( take up )) in ((increasing the tendenccy to take up smoking ))

5- these phrases (( a double blind.... placebo controlled....randomised study ))

Finally , i'm sorryy for that long lines , i completely prepared for the english exam BUT these words & phrases still have to be gotten... thanx..

Cut down on = reduce one's use of 3-- enter the realm of rationing = approach the necessity of being rationed (issued in limited quantities) 4-- take up = begin the habit/practice of 5-- double blind = a test procedure in which the identity of those receiving the intervention is concealed from both the administrators and the subjects until after the test is completed; designed to reduce or eliminate bias in the results. I think you can find placebo, control, randomise and study in a dictionary and figure them out yourself, too.
