Help - screenplay formatting for bilingual text
Hi all,
I'm writing a screenplay set in Brazil that is majority English, but perhaps a quarter in Portuguese.
I feel I need to include an English translation of all the Portuguese text to market the screenplay.
I haven't been able to find instructions on formatting for including "subtitles" in the screenplay text.
Or should I simply include English translation, without the original Portuguese, to keep from bulking up the page count?
Could somebody point me to a resource or appropriate example?

- [/nq] Don't know if there's "standard" way (which doesn't mean that there isn't) but this might be one of the few reasonable uses for dual- column dialogue.
- It's pitched as a way to show two characters talking over the top of one another but that use has never really appealed to me.

I'd do it all in English and address the problem only if and when it got optioned or sold. Anything else is tedious to read.

For me the problem with dual column dialogue for conversation in another language is that it never ( well, hardly ever; at least in my experience) works out sentence for sentence. Something may be one sentence in one language and three sentences in another, so it leaves someone not familiar with both languages scratching their head and wondering what's being kept from them.
