Help required

Could someone tell me What does ''Cooking the books " I know it is slang for financial irregularity but what would be the correct English usage instead of using this phrase. Also anothe r word for " over - reporting " a financial statement . Could someone tell me which site would help me get this type of information. Thank you for your time and help in advance.
