Help regarding writing Motivation Letter

Dear Mountain Hiker,
I am applying for PhD student positions in Europe. I am very thankful to you if you could review my motivation letter. It is my first draft its need to do some more work on this. Please help me for doing this letter.
Thank you,
Srikanth

Dear Sir or Madam
I am writing to apply for a PhD position at the Berlin-Brandenburg School for Regenerative Therapies (BSRT), Biology Track program.
In High School I graduated with Biology and Chemistry as my majors. When I was studying my high school, I got motivated towards research field by one of my science teacher. He used to teach us very good practical biology experiments. He had once encouraged me to present experimental model in the school Science Exhibition. I presented a model about how to create power from waste food material and it fetched me 2nd prize in the science fair. It not only boosted my confidence but got me more inclined towards research. Later in life my grandfather’s demise due to lung cancer got me thinking about various questions that we still don’t have answer to. I love research because we try to solve these unanswered questions. It interests me a lot and so I landed into research field.
After joining for my under graduation in Osmania University I started doing different biology experiments and gaining theoretical knowledge. It was very exciting for me to isolate DNA from human saliva samples as my initial experiment. I was more motivated towards research when I was attended for Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) open day on 18th April 2008.In that Open Day one of the researcher explained me about knock out gene technology. CCMB produced the first knock out gene technology in India. I was inspired with that technology, making of any gene knock out mouse model give answers to so many unsolved questions. With this continuous exposure to research made me to pursue my Masters in Biotechnology.
Complementing my strong academic performance are my advanced skills in leadership and communication. I was appointed as Class Representative in my masters program. I was responsible for construction and foremost the projects organized by university. With this I used to interact with other department members and university officials. As a class representative I successfully organized industrial tour for our group. At the same time, I had the opportunity to undertake my master thesis work on “Rhamnolipid mediated green synthesis of gold nanoparticles” under the supervision of Dr.C.Ganesh Kumar at Indian Institute of Chemical Technology , Hyderabad, India. By conducting laboratory activities, I sharpened my critical thinking and analysis as well as acquired advanced skills and techniques such as Column Chromatography, FPLC and HPLC.
After completing my master degree I was selected as Project Research Fellow under the guidance of Dr.Shasi Vardhan Kalivendi at Chemical Biology Division, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad, India. My experience in IICT involved in elucidation of signal transduction pathways regulating proteasome gene expression in mammalian cells. We identified few transcriptional factors which are regulating proteasomal gene expression. With this I started working towards future projects of my research. I tried to find out gene expression which are regulated by new oncogenic transcriptional factors. As a result I found out activating mutations in metabolic enzymes making tumour formation, these mutations might be influenced by oncogenic transcriptional factors. In addition to departmental program, we screen small molecules against cancer. In this endeavor, we developed assays to screen for compounds directed at inhibiting microtubule assembly.
I will able to gain useful research experience by joining in your esteemed research Institute as PhD student. I am confident of contributing substantially to your research program. Since my research is focused on the interdisciplinary area of sciences. My problem-solving and analytical skills have been thoroughly honed in biology and chemistry. I would like to reiterate that the position at Berlin-Brandenburg School for Regenerative Therapies (BSRT) is among the top priorities in my career.
Thank you for your consideration. I hope for an affirmative response.
Yours Sincerely
