HELP! Question!

Hi, I'm portuguese and I've been having an argument with a friend about a sentence.

Which one is correct?

The best you ever had IS just a memory ?

or

The best you ever had WAS just a memory ?

which one is it? and why? please, help, tks in advance Emotion: wink

My preference is for "is."

thank Emotion: wink i though you could use both but my friend kept saying that using "WAS" was a major english grammar mistake... glad to know tha

Remember how you felt this time last year? You were convinced that the best you ever had was just a memory. Look at you now! New job, new husband, a baby on the way -- I'd say your best times are still ahead,wouldn't you?
