Personal Statement



I am a senior Chinese financial analyst focusing on FX and futures, who witnessed the latest 7 years’ ups and downs of Chinese financial derivatives markets depending on persevering character and perhaps a bit of fortune. I now wish to enter the master program major in ***at your university.



Chinese financial market has great potential as an emerging market under fast-growing economic environment, but it is still very young, which is characterized by early stage of its development. Compared with FX and futures markets in , security market is more regulated, while the average working period of 505 security fund managers was 2.5 years by the end of 2008 according to Wind statistics. FX brain drained more seriously since FX margin business is still grey in so far. The business was permitted for a time because FX hedger and speculator appealed, while in 2008 it is prohibited because of high trading risk and irregular market situation. I did overcome various difficulties to indulge myself in the immature industry for 7 years not only because I love and enjoy my occupation, but also firmly hold the rising-sun industry is very promising. will need substantial financial derivative talents with both theory and practical experience once the derivative market boom in the nearest future. One indication is that the stock index future was permitted recently. I believe my past persevering in financial market and present decision to further education major in ***will be proved correct and strategic.



In city, more than 70% of ***practitioners are male and have either master or doctor’s degree from reputable university. I could conclude I am a lucky girl among less than 30% minority to do my favorite job well in this line with a bachelor’s degree before.



In retrospect, it would be true to say that the day I found my first job to work for a successful futures trader in 2002 was a turning point in my life. I would always be grateful for his leading me to the splendid ***field, which made me avoid many detours. I found my place as both financial analyst to provide investment suggestions or training and trader to serve for institutions or individuals. Year after year went past, I kept making efforts on my place. As a result, my analysis and trading ability become widely recognized among industry little by little.



As a senior FX professional, I was appointed as supervisor of R&D department in *** Capital International, Shanghai Branch in 2006, managing analysts with either higher degree than me or CFA, CPA holders. I felt pressured instead of complacent during that time. Oppugn, suspicion and supplant came sometimes, most attack directing to my degree. The attack is cold but true. It’s after I became several global real FX contests winner that the attack almost disappeared. While weakness of bachelor’s degree background still remains an obstacle of my career development since higher degree is open sesame to many job opportunities, which became one of the motivations why I decided to further education.



Last motivation is my strong desire to update professional theoretical knowledge after years’ working. I took master courses major in investment *** from ***& *** in Sep. 2009. After several compulsive courses, I found I could see farther and have better understanding on how economy operates on a higher place which make my desire to absorb new knowledge stronger. According to the arrangement, main compulsory courses starting from Sep., 2009 to Jun., 2010 could lay a solid theoretical foundation before elective courses starting from Sep., 2010 to Jun. 2011. My intention is to further update ***knowledge abroad in 2010 because derivative products derived from western country. Compared with many programs available for me in western countries, I found your 1-year master program major in ***is quite suitable for me. Your ranked TOP 100 among global universities in 2008 according to Times and its ***program has long successful history. I am sure I could benefit a lot from the program and make practical use of the knowledge for future work.

Firstly, now I take master course in the Public *** & Administration School of Shanghai ***& *** , which includes necessary 3 courses required by your master program. I have completed micro*** course already by now and will have completed main compulsive courses including money & finance, mathematics statistics courses by the end of Jun . Since your program will start in Aug. 2010, the 2 courses from China to will connect perfectly.



Secondly, regarding to the recommended additional qualification, I used to take CPA courses such as Financial Management, Accounting in *** and Audit in Shanghai College of Financial Management respectively from 2008 to 2009. The training experience made me have knowledge on ***including net present value, risk and return, diversification, asset pricing, weighted average cost of capital, forwards, futures, swaps, options, hedging, capital structure, dividend policy, etc. and financial accounting including the structure and format of financial statements, analysis and interpretation of accounts, profit measurement, the cost and revenue concepts, and ratio analysis of financial statements etc.



Thirdly, I have 7 years’ professional experience in ***field. It could help me better understand the courses by combination theory with practice and make me more cherish the hard-won study opportunity than others.



Last but not the least, I have a major in English. What’s more, I have several years’ part-time English translate experience and latest English working environment experience. So I am sure I could adapt myself to the English study environment in your school soon.
