Help, please! "a band of clothing"

In the following sentence, where exactly is flesh bulging? I couldn't picture anything. Also, what confused me is the use of the article. It is not "the band", but "a band". So, are there several bands (as on a striped shirt, etc.)?

"My eyes would fasten on flesh bulging over a band of her clothing."

Thanks in advance!
