Help OTHELLO

can you read this and tell me what you thing Emotion: smile

William Shakespeare is considered to be among the greatest playwrights that have ever lived William Shakespeare was born in 1564 died: 1616, is considered of one of the greatest writers who has ever lived. He had a unique way of putting things into words. All of his plays, sonnets, and poems have gotten great recognition. But when Shakespeare wrote Othello he created one of the most controversial villains of all times; Iago. He is best described as disturbing, ruthless, and amoral. No other character can even come close to his evil in I whole literatury word .
He has written dozens and dozens of brilliant plays, most of those plays have been made into movies one such play that has been made into a movie is Othello. The play ?Othello? is one of Shakespeare?s greatest tragedies it is about a black general in the Italian army, Othello and what happened between him and his wife, Desdemona. The main villain in this play is Iago; who is a soldier under Othellos ? command. Iago tells Othello numerous lies about Desdemona and Othello friend, and former right-hand man, Cassio. Shakespeare covers quite a few of the major issues that are still facing society today. These themes such as ethnicity, betrayal, and love are what make this play one of Shakespeare?s greatest tragedies. In the play Othello, jealousy and envy are prominent themes from the beginning to the end. Play slowly unfolds it is evident that jealousy is the cause of most of the dramatic actions which take place in the duration of the play. It is described as the "green - eyed
monster." "Green" representing the colour of envy, and "monster" shows
how destructive and how vicious it can be. This quotation is said by a character named Iago.
Iago has a strong manipulative mind. He is the first of all the characters in the play to be attacked by the "green - eyed monster." This is very ironic, Iago is warning Othello to be
aware of jealousy, however what Othello does not know is that Iago is the one that is building up the resentment within him. As the play opens we see that Iago is already feeling jealous as he says "That never set a squadron in the field, nor the division of a battle knows" this portrays Iago's bitterness and towards Cassio
Othello is a very narrow minded and simple character. It is as a direct consequence of his inability to change that he is able to be so easily manipulated by Iago. At the beginning of the play Othello states ‘’For since these arms of mine’’ their dearest action in the tented field and little of this great world can I speak more than pertains to feats of broil and battle.? Othello acknowledges his naivety and lack of knowledge of life. ‘’My parts, my title, my perfect soul’’ Othello states when Iago informs him that Brabantio is coming to confront him. Alongside Othellos self proclaimed naivety Othello also has a very idealized view of the himself, the world and love. It is a combination of all of these characteristics that ultimately lead to Othello?s downfall.
Iago, in the play Othello, is a very intriguing villain. Even though he is often referred to as "Honest" Iago, he lies,
cheats, steals, bullies, and even kills just to get what he wants Iago starts off being evil when he finds out that Othello gave Cassio the position of lieutenant that he felt he deserved. To take this position from Cassio he must not let his conscience get in his way. This is not a problem with Iago because he has no conscience. Iago is able
to manipulate anyone who gets in the way of his goals. He does this over and over during the course of the play. He uses all the characters to destroy Othello. He used the tension that was already existent to bring him down. And he also uses his intense sense of intuition. Iago is smart. He is an excellent judge of people and their characters. He knows Roderigo is in love with Desdemona and would do anything to have her as his own. Iago says about Roderigo, "Thus do I ever make my fool my purse." Act I, Scene III, Line 359 By playing on Roderigo's hopes, Iago is able to swindle money and jewels from him, thos making himself a profit, while using Roderigo to forward his other goals.

In Othello, Shakespeare treats Desdemona, as a strong, independent woman who will always do what she thinks is right. Since Desdemona believes in standing by her husband, she makes sure she does it all through the play. Shakespeare shows Desdemona's spirit right away. When she comes to the council to defend her actions in marrying Othello, her defense is remarkably forthright, spirited and courageous. She is quite aware of the great risk in marrying a man of another color and another race. She tells her fatherI am hitherto your daughter.‘’But here's my husband. And so much duty as my mother showed to you, preferring you before her father, so much I challenge that I may profess due to the Moor my Lord.‘’In the same scene Desdemona again shows her stubbornness and ability in choice making when deciding what to do when Othello is on duty. Since her father will not let her stay in the house she tells him, "That I did love the Moor to live with him" which means she will go with Othello to Cyprus where he will do battle with the Turks. Not only is Desdemona not afraid to face a ducal council but also she is also not afraid to go to war with her husband.

I thing

It may seem as if Iago is the caused Othello's downfall, however this is not the case. It can be argued that if Othello had not been so blindly jealous and trusting in Iago, he would have seen his evil plan to destroy him. Throughout the book, Iago constantly convinces Othello of things that aren't true. Othello believes Iago because he has so much trust in him. Othello believes everything that Iago tells him without actually seeking the truth. This leads Othello to kill Desdamona without actually finding concrete proof that she was promiscuous. Not once did Othello doubt Iago's words. He even believed Iago over his own wife without a doubt.

As events unfold and Iago has nicely set up a counterfeit affair between Desdemona and Cassio, Othello shows extreme signs of jealousy. "Lie with her? Lie on her? We say lie on her when they belie her. Lie with her! Zounds, that's fulsome. Handkerchief, confessions, handkerchief! To confess, and be hanged for his labor; first to be hanged, and then to confess! I tremble at it. Nature would not invest herself in such shadowing passion without some instruction. It is not words that shakes me thus. Pish! Noses, ears, and lips? Is't possible? Confess? Handkerchief? O devil! Falls in a trance." (p. 109). Then Iago follows by saying "My lord is fall'n into an epilepsy. This is his second fit; he had one yesterday." (p. 109). Othello is so jealous that he must "get even". He sends Iago to kill Cassio and he himself kills Desdamona. At the end of the book, Othello finally realizes that Iago set it all up and that his blind rage destroyed his wife. After this he kills himself. "I kissed thee ere I killed thee. No way but this, Killing myself, to die upon a kiss." (p. 154).

It is these events that not only create the suspense in the story, but together, they prove that it is purely Othello's blind trust and extreme jealousy that lead to not only his wife's death, but his own downfall, executed by only himself.
